If you are relatively new to the world of work and want to apply for admin jobs, but don’t yet have many of the skills or experience required for the roles you see advertised, don’t worry. There are lots of courses you can do to upskill and you may be able to successfully transfer other skills across. Many employers are more concerned with finding the right people to fit in with their organisational culture or team and are willing to invest in training and developing.

At Allen Associates, we always have a great selection of temp admin jobs and permanent administration roles on offer in Oxford and across Oxfordshire.
Here are some of the most common admin roles we recruit for at Allen Associates:
- Administrative Assistant
These are usually entry level positions or admin jobs typically requiring just a couple of years’ experience. Typically, an Administrative Assistant will support individuals or teams across a business or department. In larger organisations, this role may report to an Administration Manager. The nature of the work will depend on the industry sector and team or department it is associated with, but you can expect it to be task driven and busy.
- Administrative Officer or Administration Manager
Administrative roles come in all shapes and sizes but an Administrative Officer or Administration Manager will usually have a greater degree of responsibility than an Assistant. You will almost certainly be expected to work independently, manage your own workload and make the role your own. You may also be expected to manage less experienced administrators within your team.
- Office Manager
As Office Manager, you will be responsible for the smooth running of the office, working closely with different departments and typically reporting into an Operations Director, Facilities Director or Managing Director. The role is likely to be fairly expansive and might require you to support other areas, such as finance, marketing, HR, operations and facilities. This may also be a client or customer-facing role.

Apply for admin roles in Oxfordshire
When it comes to finding your dream admin job in Oxford and Oxfordshire, your choice of industry sector can be very important. It really does help to work in an area that taps into a personal passion or appeals to one of your wider interests. For example, you may feel more fulfilled working for a charity, educational or medical establishment or, if commerce is your thing, an admin role in a busy law firm, PR agency or publishing house might give you the buzz you’re looking for.
It's also worth considering whether you would be happy providing admin support within a large organisation or a small business – and how this plays into your career aspirations. You may, for example, want to develop your role and take on greater levels of administrative responsibility, perhaps with an element of people, function or task management. Or you may aspire to step into a different role entirely, using your admin role as a potential way in.
Whatever you are hoping to get out of your next move, we are here to help. At Allen Associates, we always have an interesting selection of permanent and temporary admin roles to choose from in the city of Oxford and across Oxfordshire so if you don’t find what you’re looking for on this occasion, please check back regularly and get in touch.
