Are you an experienced senior level Accountant/ Financial Controller seeking a role where you can lead a finance team and support a charitable organisation committed to making a difference? As a Financial Controller, you will have the opportunity to manage day-to-day financial operations while assisting the CFO with the organisation's long-term strategic goals.

Financial Controller Responsibilities

This position will involve, but will not be limited to:

  • Managing and supporting a finance team consisting of a Finance Officer and two Finance Administrators to ensure accurate financial processes.
  • Overseeing payroll processing, which is outsourced to third-party providers, ensuring compliance and accuracy.
  • Supporting the CFO by handling operational finance tasks and enabling strategic focus for organisational leadership.
  • Assisting in budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting to support organisational sustainability efforts.
  • Leading on financial transactions, reconciliations, and month-end processes.
  • Ensuring adherence to financial policies, procedures, and relevant compliance standards.
  • Supporting change management initiatives within the finance function.
  • Liaising with fundraising teams and managing grant allocations.

Financial Controller Rewards

  • Salary between £40,000 and £43,000 depending on experience

No onsite parking; office is a 15-minute walk from the train station with park and ride and bus links into central Oxford. 

Full-time role with a requirement to work onsite a minimum of three days per week. You will primarily work fully onsite during the probation period for training and stakeholder relationship building.

Financial Controller Experience Essentials

  • Qualified or part-qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) or QBE with solid charity finance experience 
  • Proven experience managing operational finance functions and experience of leading a team
  • Experience with payroll management, financial reporting, and budget monitoring
  • Familiarity with CRM and ERP systems is desirable
  • Knowledge of charities SORP (FRS 102) and UK financial reporting standards advantageous
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a minimum of A-Levels in English and Maths; degree qualifications preferred
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in French or Spanish is a bonus
  • Ability to travel several times per year for meetings and events

Location

The role is based in a city-centre office, accessible by public transport and walkable from Oxford train station. Parking is not available on site. The organisation offers a hybrid work model, with three days in the office weekly, and remote working on other days.
